The homeowners originally approached us because of how cold their second floor was in the winter. They wanted this problem fixed as well as an updated exterior look with new windows.

It turns out that you could actually see the top of the brick when you looked into their cold air returns on the second floor. This means that air from the outside was shooting up behind the brick and into their floor space... No wonder they were so cold!

We contacted StyleHaus Interiors to do the design of the exterior. We used Hardie Panel (fibre cement product) with aluminum trim for the majority of the siding material. Eastern White Cedar was used for the sun screen and post at the front door. The soffit and other siding that you see is a product called Longboard. Longboard is an aluminum siding and soffit product which is not only made with up to 25% recycled materials but is also 100% recyclable.

What you can't see is what was done behind the siding. We blocked all the rim boards and spray foamed them. We also spray foamed the rim board in the basement and the soffit area above the front door. This sealed up the weak points of the home and gave us maximum R-Value.

We then covered up the entire second floor with 2" of extruded polystyrene and taped all the joints. This added another R-10 to the 2nd floor. A rain screen was installed over top of this to keep the panels off the foam.

All this to say that not only does it look fantastic but it also increased the efficiency of the home!
