Functionality was a key factor when starting to work with Style Haus Interiors (Ottawa) through this Kitchen Design process. This home is the hub for family and friends. Ample counter space, access to the fridge without impeding the cooking area and an open concept space were top of the list.

Of course, every kitchen needs to look great, too! The counter tops are concrete made by Threshold Design in Pakenham. The backsplash, trim and mantle (which you see in one of the pictures) are all Butternut sourced from nearby Monkton, Vermont. The floors are reclaimed pine from the Ottawa River sourced by Logs End and finished with a clear water based finish. The solid wood drawers by Kitchen Craft add the perfect touch to this Conscious Kitchen.

It’s hard to ignore the farmhouse kitchen sink and pot filler. It’s little features like these that add a whole new level of functionality. The Dishwasher and Microwave are out of site and out of mind but are placed perfectly for convenience.

The stools are custom made by the owner of The Conscious Builder. The last remaining Butternut pieces were used for the seats and gas pipe was used for the legs. They are one of a kind and cannot be found anywhere else.

Efficiency was top of the list for the home, overall. Since the home is fossil-fuel-free, the free standing stove has the look of a gas stove but is induction. LED lights are the icing on the cake for this environmentally conscious kitchen design.
