This property’s conceptual design by George Washington Smith was a modest home intended for his own use; however, the plans were reportedly commandeered by an associate in his office, and built in the early 30’s without his oversight. Fortunately, many of the traditional G.W.S. details were incorporated into the original structure. With the partnership of Marc Appleton & Associates, a noted G.W.S. historian, we set out to preserve, restore, and replicate the original features. The updates to the mechanical and electrical systems, renovations of bathrooms, entry courtyard, fountain, and entirely new landscaping, pool, pizza oven, and multiple French doors in the living room, were some of the many improvements made to this home with the challenge of protecting its historical integrity. The interior wood lath and plaster were restored and the exterior plaster was repaired. A new roof was installed with preserved original and salvaged tiles.
