Upper level entertaining area before construction. It had been a vacant lot for many years; was overgrown, had an old concrete pad that was very thick that needed to be removed; the existing tree had not been pruned in many years.

This project was a steep hillside. An aqueduct-type step-down system was constructed to slow down and retain runoff. There is a drainage system beneath the plantings, stone and mulch.

This garden provides part of the frame for the steps leading up to the private entertaining area. The garden was installed three years ago and has grown in so beautifully to provide color and texture throughout the year.

The natural, woodland garden has grown in beautifully. covering the hillside with color and texture. The bottom retaining wall has now been covered with a living green wall of kurapia ground cover.

This staircase rises 40 feet to the entertaining area above. California Native Ceanothus and bunch grasses provide texture, color and interest. There is a concrete fabric used to help control erosion and provide slope stabilization.
