Schutjer Home

The stairs on this project are White Oak with Poplar risers, skirts and balusters. The rail and newels are made of Walnut to match the front door. The balusters and newels were custom turned because they are bigger than normal. It is a continuous rail that starts in the basement and ends on the second floor. My pictures are in progression from bottom to top.

This is the second newel. Both newels were custom turned. The fitting on the top of this newel was custom made so the rail can continue from the side instead of from the center. That was to give as much space going up the stairs as possible.

This ceiling detail was pretty fun to install. The arches are two different radius so the T&G had to be custom made to intersect properly. Installed by Kevin Fitt, owner of Fitt Construction, with my help.
