Serdar Net Positive Micropolis House
I knew from our first meeting that Ken and Cheryl Serdar were going to be cool clients. They are transplants from Houston Texas, and the first meeting had them each driving a tiny Smart car all the way up the hill to my studio.
Cheryl is a jewelry designer and has tons of innate style - she came in with platform stilettos! They selected one of my Micropolis house plans and we customized it for them, as I do with most of these. They chose the “Happy Family” design which seems to be a popular one. We enlarged it from 950 heated SF to 2222 heated SF so that it would fit a large spa like bathroom and Cheryl’s jewelry office.
Their house is cutting edge, kind of like Cheryl herself, with her pink hair and awesome self designed jewelry. It goes beyond NET ZERO into NET POSITIVE, has a large scale Industrial fan from the Big Ass Fan Co., cat steps that rise up the wall to create a “cat walk” 12’ above the ground, a jewelry display office for Cheryl’s work, a special “shoe display” closet for Cheryl’s incredible designer shoe collection.
It exemplifies my philosophy that building smaller and smarter lets you put your money into things that matter to you more. In this case, huge windows, an incredible spa bathroom and a special shoe closet!
