Situated on Lake Michigan, this kitchen’s layout was not just dated but also very constricted and lacked any flow. The design goal was to start from scratch and deliver an open layout conducive to entertaining, weekend visitors, and the client’s many grandkids.

Among many challenges, the most prominent was the structural design limitations that were involved with this multi-family condo building. The was restricted to the current square footage and exterior details such as window placements and door entries.

The solution required a free-flowing design that would have minimal traffic restrictions. This involved the kitchen to be restricted as long and lean, covering the entire length of the condo. The dining room was repositioned between the living room and newly opened stairway. The result of these few changes has since created better movement and kept the area from being too congested.

A light and airy design theme has converted this once stuffy and dated kitchen. Sparkling amongst clean lines and warm hues, crisp white cabinetry and a massive accenting island now anchor the kitchen. Beyond the island, a new cleverly designed wine bar opens up the entire main level and adds additional space for entertaining as well as unobstructed Lake Michigan views.
