We replaced the damaged vinyl floor with a beautiful new rough cut 12x12 natural slate floor. Many newer homes present some interesting challenges, and this job was no different. The joists in this home were spaced 24 inches instead of 16, which causes the subfloor to flex beyond acceptable industry standards. To remedy this, an additional layer of 3/8" exposure 1 plywood topped with Schluter Ditra XL was installed. These extra steps add cost, but are the only approved method for installing stone over 24 inch joists. The result is a beautiful stone floor that will last.
