One of the options for the aging is to move in with their families, which is what this one has opted for in McLean, Virginia. This family opted to build an addition to their home to create an in-law suite that operates independently and is discreetly connected to the main residence. The "small house" has all the amenities for comfortable living, even when it's resident will need to live on one floor. In the future, the small house could even serve as residence for one of the young men growing up in the house or as a guest suite. Studio Santalla's involvement in this project involved the design of the interior spaces to shape the architectural character of the rooms, lighting, material and finish selections, furniture and artwork.
