Located east of the Cascade Mountains, this 2600 SF resort home is built on lands previously utilized for coal mining from the late 1800’s until the mine closed in 1963. This contemporary home pays homage to its site and rich history. The exterior of the home boasts stone cladding that mirrors the likeness of coal and custom steel panel cladding with a patina that will continue to build character over time. On the interior, the 19’-0” tall fireplace features steel panels that bring the exterior materials to the interior. This double sided steel fireplace, flanked by the look of heavy concrete columns, is not only the gathering area of the home it is also the aesthetic core of the project. The chiseled edge detail on the granite mantle resembles coal and ties nicely with the coal mining coffee table cart, black coal powder room sink bowl, and steel details throughout the home.
Throughout the home you will find pieces of history recalling stories of the past. The one-of- a-kind barn door leading from the Great Room to the Office is made of reclaimed barn wood sourced locally. By utilizing the same designer from the architectural phase throughout the interior design and custom furniture phases, the house gains a sense of continuity and ties together seamlessly. You will see the same steel profile detail on the stair stringers, supports for the raised live edge wood counter in the kitchen, and the dining room table legs. The steel stringers on the stairs carry your eye to the second floor where they transition into an exposed structural beam carrying the load of the upper floor. The hammered metal detail on the hanging pendants in the kitchen is mirrored on several pieces of furniture throughout the home.
