This ADU design was recently completed in California’s San Francisco Bay Area. We optimized the placement and form of the ADU to maintain the existing garage and usable backyard space between the main house and new ADU. Carefully placed windows add 360 degree light to the interiors and connect the indoor and outdoor spaces to expand the living experience beyond the walls of the ADU. The lofted ceilings add to the open feel and after several visitors have experienced the space we’re told it feels like 900 sf (It’s actually only 600 sf!). A large covered patio offers year round shade and weather protection and the roof forms play well with the existing home and garage.
