The Skyline House
Sustainability at The Skyline House
LEED Platinum certified home, designed by Nathan Good Architects, PC. It features abundance of natural light, views from throughout the home to the yard to the south, uncompromised indoor air quality, the use of natural materials, and a home that would generate as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis.
Non-Toxic
While most private homes in the U.S. are filled with toxic paints, finishes, and glues, the Skyline House was built with no and low-VOC finishes, adhesives and composite woods, reducing exposure to occupants to harmful chemical offgassing.
Energy Efficient
The heating and cooling for the Skyline House is provided by a state of the art Daikin air to water heat pump, one of the most energy efficient systems available today. LED lighting and a Control4 automation system also reduce energy load while increasing occupant comfort and control of interior and exterior illumination.
Water Efficient
High performance fixtures at all sinks and shower heads, and a state of the art in-the-ground irrigation system reduce water and energy use.
Solar PV Power
A 12.5 kwh photovoltaic array on the south-facing roof generates electricity which is automatically sold back to the electric utility, offsetting the cost of the renewable energy purchased for the house (this is called “net metering”).
A Climate Neutral Home for Those Who Care
The Skyline House was designed and built to operate without any fossil fuel inputs - no heating oil, no natural gas. The high performance induction cooktop provides better control and faster water boiling than many commercial gas cooktops. With a GreenSource power contract from the local utility (PGE), the Skyline House can be (and currently is) powered with 100 percent renewable energy - wind, solar and hydro.
