Our Tiga Sanctuary project won a Silver Award in the 2017 International Landscape Design Awards from the Association for Professional Landscape Designers (APLD). Sanctuary which stand for three (tri) in Chinese dialect spoken in Singapore was created on the high mountain plains has activities for the whole family with a pool, spa, fire pit, putting green, outdoor kitchen and water elements fully integrated with audio visual entertainment. The site posed numerous challenges starting with the location of the pool deck in relation to the homes existing retaining walls and structure. Once sited the landscape plan was revised to maintain view corridors from neighboring residential sites to a nearby lake while enhancing the clients privacy in the pool area. A berm was created to shield the site and create a micro-climate for lush plantings on the interior pool side of the site. Planting transition from lush to native as they get farther away from the renovated area. Native grasses are to be reestablished in the open space behind the site. Additionally outdoor kitchen was incorporated into the building envelope of the site to integrate a putting green, outdoor kitchen, hot tub and fire pit into a dynamic entertainment area. A large custom water element was added in direct site lines to complete the tropical environment. Stone landings from the house were created to facilitate the journey from the homes interior to the lower pool area.
