Transitional With A View, Browns Point (Before & After)

This kitchen was cut off from the living and dining area by a two story wall. This, combined with angles and a dated, inefficient layout, it was claustrophobic and uninviting. We took out the range/microwave wall and opened up the space to the rest of the house. We relocated the refrigerator and used a new microwave drawer feature.

Granite with a motion pattern replaced the old laminate, and handmade tile backsplash added an organic texture. Shaker style cabinets updated the look and match the adjoining powder and laundry rooms.

Transitional With A View, Materials Overview

To add to the illusion of a larger space, we added various sized cabinets along the back wall to contrast with the vaulted ceiling. Long pulls accentuate the height of the cabinets as well.

Cabinetry Details

The window above the sink is wrapped in the same Colonial Persa granite used for the countertops, to add a break in the tile backsplash.

This stainless steel microwave drawer on the lower cabinets takes it out of eye level view, while also saving counter space.

This unique layout allows for a functional cook space that can also be used to entertain guests, as the peninsula faces the dining room. Prior to this remodel, this was not an option because of the wall that divided the dining space and the kitchen.

This wall that held the microwave and the range separated the dining an cook spaces. By removing this, we opened up the home and made it a more transitional layout - rather than keeping the two spaces divided.

Angled corner cabinets not only dated the kitchen, but made for an inefficient use of storage space. Switching these to a shelved corner cabinet on top, and a corner lazy susan on the bottom maximizes the storage space without items getting lost.
