Updated Classic Residence

The house contains stellar examples of 20th century and contemporary furniture, which is what the owners love. (Sheldon’s interiors usually are more traditional/transitional, so this house reflects an interesting departure from his typical work.) In the living room, pairs of Barcelona chairs in caramel leather and Gary Hutton library chairs are assembled on a shag with an incredible 3-inch pile that’s called Under the Sea. Sharing the large open space with the living room, the dining area is anchored by a Michael Berman rosewood table with Dessin Fournir chairs upholstered in a Brunschwig silk. The walls in the living and dining room are Venetian plaster in an ochre umber shade.

There are three bedrooms in the house. With large views of the ocean, the master bedroom is all about textures. The walls are covered in a bluish hand-colored silk. The nightstands are sheathed in shagreen. By the way, isn’t the bench from Pucci at the foot of the bed divine?

A few more notes: In the family room is a pair of pony benches from Therien. The hanging pendants in the kitchen are from Holly Hunt, with barstools from David Sutherland. There’s more Sutherland on the deck: The chairs and table are Terry Hunziker for Sutherland. The owners bought the art through an art consultant they’ve been working with for several years.
