Upstate Farmhouse
An 1850's-built farmhouse 2-1/4 hours north of New York City.
Unlike some farmhouses that can feel dark or cramped by small rooms and/or low ceilings, this one had magnificent light coming in from all sides. The living room, which runs the full width of the house, was extraordinarily soothing and bright in all seasons. House maintained its original "pumpkin" pine wide plank floors throughout and original 8 over 8 sash windows in most of the rooms.
Design work included repainting throughout with a calmer and lighter color scheme, stripping carpet and painting the stairs, reconfiguring a little-used space into a study by adding a salvaged french door and updating hardware and details throughout.
