Urban Penthouse

The Buddhist philosophy of pursuit of ethical conduct, wisdom and mental development is how my client lives his life day-in and day-out.

I designed and decorated this newly built 1,909-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom "bachelor pad" penthouse in Playa Vista to showcase his personality and love of all things "zen" by creating a calm, welcoming, sun-drenched, coordinated-yet-relaxed, storage-conscious home that he can enjoy both alone and with company, and where his guests can stay comfortably for extended visits.

In open plan designs, it is paramount to eliminate clutter and create balance. We displayed pantry staples in clear, simple jars and installed the microwave below the countertop to achieve this objective.
Visual Appeal
In large kitchens, having a few cabinets with glass front panels helps to break up the weight of having too many solid panel cabinets in a row. It also allows people to easily identify which cabinets have commonly used items, such as glassware.
Mixed Cabinet Fronts
An oversized modern pendant chandelier hanging over a light wood live edge dining table, surrounded by vintage mid-century modern dining chairs, in a south-facing open concept dining room is breathtaking.
Casual Elegance
Now this is a room that makes me want to meditate! The movement studio in this penthouse has tremendous energy with its extremely high ceiling, wraparound patio deck, and collapsing window wall.
Time to Reflect
In this corridor we used two FLOR carpet tiles from the same collection as the dining room rug to convey a sense of whimsy and create a purposeful transition between living areas.
Pop of Color
This home office doubles as a guest room when needed, as the ottomans easily move aside and the sofa pulls out to a bed.

Often times mixing metals creates a more approachable environment. Don't be afraid to combine bronze, brass, gold, rose gold, and silver, as we did in this guest room. It helps bring needed warmth to most bedrooms.
