Vine Patio

Bishop Land Design was tasked to develop a concept for the backyard of this Quincy residence. The goal was to upgrade this previously underutilized area into a family-friendly, fully-functional gathering space.
A pergola structure was proposed in a durable, lightweight wood to provide a framework for vines to thereby provide shade for a seating area. A kitchen area with a new, built-in grill and sink was proposed, and a spacious, extended bar with seating.
The planting scheme was designed to define the space’s functional parameters while beautifying it with climate-resilient, low maintenance plants. The planting palette includes vines and other flowering species that, with their warm colors, would bring a tropical vibe to this New England yard surrounded by mature deciduous trees.
