VPC - "Turkey Run" LEED Gold Home
Located in Blue Ridge Mountain Club, an exclusive gated community nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, “Turkey Run” is just steps away from hundreds of miles of hiking trails, spectacular waterfalls, and breath taking views. This home is set on a sloping 1 acre lot with a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
"Turkey Run" focuses heavily on reducing energy use. The three bedroom project features low-e argon windows, high efficiency lighting fixtures, compact fluorescent bulbs and high density, open cell spray foam insulation. Other energy efficiency upgrades include a tankless water heater, an energy efficient ground-source heat pump, a programmable thermostat, as well as mechanical ventilation.
Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, PaperStone countertops, and root stock landscaping are just a few of the low energy products used in the home. As a result of incorporating energy saving technologies and products, “Turkey Run” has achieved a 49 home energy (HERS) rating, which is more than twice as energy efficient as most new homes. A typical new home is rated at 100 on the HERS index, while an existing home is around 130.
We are proud to announce that "Turkey Run" was awarded LEED Gold certification on July 24, 2014. LEED for Homes is a green home certification program that rewards homes that are designed and built to be energy- and resource-efficient and more healthy and durable for the occupants. LEED-certified homes complete a technically rigorous process that often includes a home energy (HERS) rating and onsite inspections to verify that the home is built to be energy and water efficient, environmentally sound, and a healthier place to live. VPC Builders worked diligently to get as many materials as possible within a 500 mile radius of Blowing Rock, North Carolina. From the framing materials to the geothermal, for "Turkey Run" is as green as they come in the High Country.
