After the proprietor found an Art Deco bar in perfect condition, located for sale from its original establishment in Queens NY, he was inspired. For this venture, he would evoke his passion for early 20th Century American design, music, and culture. This would be an environment recalling a “more decent time of proper cocktails, proper dress, when people savored time together.” There would be a piano, drinks would be made from scratch, Nina Simone and Billy Holiday would be played, the feeling dark and sultry. Deep red Venetian plaster, onyx lighting, and candlelight juxtaposed with both modern and period furniture, create a feeling of “The Oak Room with a twist”. It opened to such success that the second floor, called The Club Room, an even more intimate setting with a fireplace and antique rugs, was opened.
