Williamsburg Rental Apartment

This circa 1900 paper doily factory in Brooklyn NY sat dormant for over 10 years. As part of this adaptive reuse project, Glickman Schlesinger Architects designed two apartments on the second floor of this building (and the pre-school on the ground floor). In both apartments, the original ceilings which had been covered up were restored and paint on joists and columns was removed to reveal the natural wood of the original heavy timber structure. The existing maple wood floors were sanded and refinished. In this apartment, which is used as a rental apartment, simplicity was a top priority. The bathroom, for example, combines Carrara marble tiles from Home Depot, a vanity from IKEA, and wood reclaimed from the building during the renovation.
