We invest time in asking questions in the hopes to get a response , however, 9 times out of 10 we do not!! Why use these decorators....such a waste of time!!

It is perfectly fine if designers and decorators do not answer specific details. It is their trade secret.

The cabinetry is Pratt and Lambert Pure White. The Benjamin moore White Herron on the walls and ceiling is a bit more grey which helps with the hue of the reclaimed Beams and the carrera herringbone splash

This ceiling was firred down to accommodate the cans and the beams were then boxed in

Was it necessary to do anything special to support the beams -- did you have to put supports in the wall ? - We are looking at doing something similar in our house, and the carpenter is saying that we may have to tear out the sheetrock on the wall and add supports in the wall to support the beams. Unfortunately, this is going to increase the cost so much that it may not be advisable any more.

So do you plank the ceiling and leave gaps for where the beams will go? Or do you plank and just put the beams directly over the seams? I can't seam to find this info anywhere so it must be obvious but not this newbie. *blushes*

I also think Houzz should monitor designers. When they fail to answer questions, they shouldn't be allowed to continue to post new projects!

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Susan Stieglitz added this to Tongue and Groove
This kitchen’s vaulted ceiling is lined with tongue-and-groove planks painted white. Wood beams set them off and recessed lights allow the planks, rather than the lighting fixtures, to take center stage.
