You could hang a triptych of kiln-fired art tile right over the backsplash - in complimentary colors. As your desires change or the seasons change you can change out the art. The art tiles are easy to clean after grease spatter from the stove top

Not the color but the different shape tiles vertical
The countertop is a granite slab called rainforest-green. It is honed (not shiny) and mitered at the edges in a 'waterfall' installation.
