It was desirable to these clients and their lifestyle. The Master bedroom/study suite occupies the entire second floor, and privacy was not a concern whatsoever- sharing the light and the views was much more important. There are no additional occupants other than them. The same solution might not be appropriate for everyone, as your comment clearly points out. See additional images below, that show the views from other vantage points from the second floor. As mentioned above, priority was given to the abundant light and views, vs any acoustical privacy that was really of low priority to these clients.

POLIFORM has some beds that are similar to this- see attached image. They allow each side of the headboard to be adjusted individually, and the bed also has storage underneath. I have the same question. Can a gel stain (or some sort of stain) be used without sanding them all the way down to bare wood? I've heard of Rustoleum Transformation kit, but not much about their "stain over stain" product.

Love how the bed in to one side near a window patio. Image a fireplace center at the end of the bed. It carries over from the below flow that will also have a fireplace dual fireplace that separates the main in-law suite living area to a below small reading room.
