the floor material in the image above is a combination of brushed petite granite and french limestone. the surface texture is intentionally worn and matte in finish for both stone types. the edges are cut on a saw, in lieu of setting with tumbled edges, as that look is far too common and artificial for this sort of space. i wanted to mix modern and old world, and watch them collide in this beautiful room!

Love the fireplace.

I will now add this exact styled fireplace in my kitchen reno.

I had the space planned as a pantry, BUT this fireplace is so much more worthy than a pantry.

You may be able to find something similar by searching for wood floating shelves. Hope that helps!

Yes, if you go to ebay and search for reclaimed floating shelves, you will find more than you can sift through in one sitting. Good luck!

10. Modern rustic taste. Achieving an eclectic look can be as simple as having a country kitchen and doing a modern light fixture of the table. One element is sometimes all a space needs to go from predictable to eclectic.More in this series: How to Find Your Kitchen StyleHow to Remodel Your KitchenSo Your Style Is: Eclectic

Contemporary barn. The brick oven is clearly the standout feature in this cozy and inviting eat-in kitchen, but details such as the mismatched wooden stools and chairs, oversize wooden beams, reclaimed-timber floating shelves, black and white tiles, distressed table and rustic white brick backsplash also add to the farmhouse feel. The contemporary rectangular light fixture and sleek kitchen cabinetry keep the look light and modern.

This rustic, elegant kitchen includes a cooking fireplace. If you’re not sure where to begin, try The Open-Hearth Cookbook: Recapturing the Flavor of Early America, by Suzanne Goldenson with Doris Simpson. How about experimenting with their recipes for cornmeal biscuits and pumpkin pudding in here? It could also be good to have this book on hand this winter for when the power goes out.

A fireplace. This one can be used for cooking, something that comes in handy on a cold night when the power goes out.
Bonnie McCarthy added this to Before You Roast Those Chestnuts, Make Sure You've Got a Clean Chimney
8. How long does a cleaning take? “It depends on how dirty the chimney is and how big it is,” Lovsteen says. Generally, it takes a two-man crew about an hour to clean a chimney. If it’s really dirty, it might take two hours. In a worst-case scenario, it may take more than one visit. “We’ve had some chimneys that have burned for 30, 40, 50 years and never had a cleaning,” Lovsteen says. This negligence often results in a coating inside the chimney almost like a glaze. “You can’t brush it out, I don’t care how strong you are,” Lovsteen says. In this case, a chimney technicians will use an acid-wash, anti-creosote spray inside the smoke chamber. They’ll allow the spray to dry and return a few days later to use special tools to dislodge the creosote.
