1940’s Ranch Transformation

When our clients purchased this cramped 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom home in the Athens, Normaltown area it was apparent it had been neglected for a long time. The house was originally built on a corner lot and over time the lot was sub-divided and the front of the house no longer faced the appropriate street, necessitating a new front entry where the existing garage stood and while the homeowners were open to an addition, the existing side lot and house layout limited our options significantly and forced our designers to get creative.

The new owner’s wish list included remodeling the existing 1940's brick ranch into a Craftsman style home, create an open floor plan with additional living space, update kitchen, add a master suite with walk-in closet and bathroom and improve the home’s overall comfort and efficiency. Every inch of the house was touched to achieve these goals.

The new design removed the existing garage and created a 16’ x 30’ addition that serves as the new front of the residence and added space for the open living room and dining room, with a powder room tucked between those and the kitchen. A bonus feature is the idyllic southern front porch that provides a welcoming entry from the driveway.
