Our clients approached us with a singular goal: create an outdoor living space in their backyard that functions seamlessly as an extension of the home’s interior space. The clients enjoy hosting parties and spending time outdoors, but their outdoor space was not conducive for either use in its prior state. They wanted multiple spaces for entertainment, activity, and relaxation. A clean, classic, innovative aesthetic was desired, as was a powerful fusion between indoor and outdoor spaces.

A classic rectangular swimming pool anchors the design. Occupying the center of the backyard and located on the main patio level, the custom pool acts as a sculptural element as well as a functional one. A semi-circular raised spa sits on axis at the end of the pool, a waterfall spilling from its center. An upper terrace rests at the lower end of the pool, providing a strong vertical presence and sublime views of the main terrace. Within the upper terrace, a custom outdoor kitchen and masonry fireplace provide entertainment options. This terrace is covered by a deck addition extending from the house’s second story; the resulting effect is a sublime space that seamlessly takes occupants from the interior of the home into the backyard design.

The deck addition houses a Jacuzzi, a second story of the massive masonry fireplace, and a private seating area that looks over the pool and its surrounding spaces. Landscaping completes the design.
