Above It All

This sleek hi-rise remodel more than 30 stories up in the air was a challenge in both design and materials. Flooded with intense natural light and open to sweeping urban views during the day, the kitchen quickly becomes dark and inward at night, relying solely on artificial light.

Kitchen Designer Matthew Rao and Architectural Designer Suzanne Williams worked together on this balancing act of night and day, function, and art to bring a whole new lifestyle to their clients, who had left a free standing home for city apartment life.

Above It All
Looking toward the midtown and downtown skylines, the sky is reflected in the graphite gray gloss SieMatic cabinets. Contrasting on the island are bronze metal drawers with a tiny raised edge that gives a formality and richness to the public side of the kitchen.

Integrated Gaggenau refrigeration includes a wine unit in between a freezer and refrigerator. A top stack of cabinetry holds all the occasionally dish-ware and extras that usually find no home in a hi-rise apartment.
