Originally a sleeping porch, this master bath including morning bar was falling apart when we met the clients. A complete remodel was in order, both to fix some of the issues such as rotting original windows and doors, but also to add closet space and a feeling of spaciousness and privacy that hadn't existed before. Interior Designer Sharon Kiss wanted a light and airy yet regal feel to this bath, and kept pushing for that.

All the while, we maintained allegiance to the idea that this space had once been a sleeping porch. The only way to do this right was to start with the tub. The more vertical footprint of the Japanese soaking tub was perfect, and we started there to get the rest of the bathroom to work. A his and hers side to the bath gives separated but proximate areas for both, and a private water closet and enclosed steam shower flank the entryway, creating a dramatic and symmetrical frame to the viewer entering the space.
