ADA Basement Renovation

The space that we used to create an ADA bathroom and kitchen were existing in the daylight basement of their home. Their family, like many, have been tasked with caring for their aging parents. The basement was once used for their daughters. It included two very generous sized bedrooms, a large bathroom, family room, utility/storage room and best of all they already had a driveway in place to access the doors.

The ADA kitchen was added to the current location because on the other side of the wall there was plumbing available. The entire kitchen has pull outs or drawers for easier access to items in the cupboards. While there are overhead cabinets that may not be reached by their mother that is in a wheelchair their father can reach the cabinets.

The ADA bathroom was converted to be slightly longer than it was originally. We moved everything to one side of the bathroom so that a wheelchair had ample room to turn and be comfortable in the space. We also added French doors to the entry into the bathroom, the bedroom that they would be using and between the bedroom and bathroom. This allows their mother to be able to not leave the bedroom during the night to access the bathroom.
