When this ancient house last changed hands it took a lot of vision and creativity to rejuvenate the old bones with the sense of harmony and quiet luxury they had lost over the decades of successive owners and haphazard renovations.
In the living room the designer suggested a new fireplace surround, new colours, new furniture, and in place of traditional built-in shelving on each side of the fireplace she created two panels and five floating shelves out of MDF. I added texture and color to them so they would complement the new cabinets. The shelves were covered with gold leaf and a brown patina and the large mirror frame was also painted and refinished with a gold and silver patina.
While everything follows the brown, gold and gray color scheme, each finish is interesting enough to stand on its own.
