Astonishing Basement in Ashburn, VA
This basement remodel helped us win the2017 Contractors of the Year (CotY) award! We created a whole new space for the residents which included a wet bar, workout room, lounge area, and amazing open home theater. We refurnished the flooring as well as the layout to give the homeowners the dream remodel they've always envisioned.

Center was contacted by a family with three children who had recently left the nest, so they were now looking at remodeling their basement. The plush carpeting and safer accessories were now unnecessary, and the family wished to update their basement into a more modern and useful space where adults and adolescents could both entertain their guests, in an open setting.
For starters, the clients wanted a new functional wet bar with built-in custom cabinetry. Abbey accomplished this by using a traditional white cabinetry line along with stunning black granite countertops. They added some glass cabinet doors with puck lights and a stone center backsplash as the bar’s main accent. Accessories such as a wine cooler, mini refrigerator, microwave, ice maker, sink,
and dishwater was installed to create a functional and entertaining hub in their
new basement area.
The next remodeling update was a grand theater area that could be used for Friday night movies and game day parties. Abbey chose the farthest part of the basement to be sectioned off into a home theater. They went with an “open concept” theater design, using half walls, columns, and false beams to define the area. The walls and trim were then painted in a darker color to further differentiate the space from the rest of the basement, as well as help absorb the ambient light produced in the room and by the newly-added projector. The area was also re-carpeted with an ‘Endless Area Rug’ allowing family and friends alike to kick off their shoes and enjoy their movies on a soft, comfortable floor.
A great many other changes were implemented to complete the basement remodel, like converting their old playroom into a complete gym with appropriate flooring that was easy on the feet and mirrors to maximize the space’s appearance. The general carpeting was replaced throughout with a stylish and long-lasting laminate floor installation. Lutron dimmers were also added for all the lighting, to easily adjusts levels of light. Through careful planning and great quality craftsmanship, Abbey Design Center provided exceptional results on time and within budget.
