Award Winning Basement - Epic Entertainment

Ever wonder what would happen if you decided to go wild and make the basement of your dreams?

That is exactly what these homeowners’ tasked us with. As their children continue to grow, the goal for this basement was to create the “it” place to be for years to come. To achieve this, we explored it all – a theatre, wet bar, wine cellar, fitness, billiards, bathroom, lounge – and then some.

In this basement's fitness room, to gain as much space as possible, we created a clever hidden door in the barn board wall to access the furnace for servicing. This hidden door is located behind the leg press machine.

The concept for this basement's custom wine cellar space began with inspiration from a barn board wine cellar the customers came across in Montreal.

Using both natural brown board and grey board we created this walk in wine cellar as a focal point within the basement. The custom glass panels and center glass door allows this space to be seen at all times while also creating its own dedicated environment.

Although this is a large basement, fitting the customer's wish list within the available square footage still posed numerous challenges working within the existing footprint of the foundation. We tucked the main bar strategically under the main staircase, hiding the angle with upper cabinetry.

The rustic aesthetic and sophisticated edge of the main bar area was created using matte black bar cabinetry, concrete-look quartz counters, as well as a live edge wood countertop on the raised bar ledge.

The lounge area is in the center of the space and can be seen from all corners of the basement. The stacked stone ledge with barn board cap helps to balance out the barn board clad bulkhead above.

The barn wood portico and horizontal wood combined with cold rolled steel at the fireplace move your eye across the space allowing you to take in all that this amazing details this basement has to offer. This once again contrasts the rustic feel with a sleeker more polished element.

The home theatre's back bar is tucked under the rear staircase and acts as the perfect concession stand to complete the authentic theatre experience.
