Uptown Basement Loft
Can an old, low, dark urban basement really add valuable living space to a previously fully renovated, century town home? With a lot of vision and a lot of hard work this cellar turned out to be stellar. Our busy customers were hoping to add additional family space to their home. A place where the kids could play and Mom and Dad could hang out, all at the same time. Adding a ceiling, walls and flooring would have been the wrong thing to do when designing and building a space already this tight. Open it up, add visual space...the ceiling is the original structural beams and joists system painted white to add the feeling of higher ceilings and to lighten the space.
The stairwell was opened up by removing walls and adding a custom, open riser staircase with a metal and wood railing. Several structural posts and the main bearing beam were altered to create the most functional living areas and traffic patterns possible.
