Backyard Summer Retreat
The homeowners (and their cats) approached us with a design in hand from another firm, but it presented too much maintenance and exceeded their intended budget. Our task was to reimagine the space and turn it into something functional, sustainable, and budget-friendly that still reflected their vision.
We removed the aging deck, pavers, and overgrown plants, carefully transplanting selected shrubs and perennials to preserve the garden’s established character.
The new design features an extended wood deck that flows into a circular patio, a low retaining wall to balance the slope, and thoughtful reuse of materials—repurposing stones into a new walkway and rebuilding the CATio with extra room for feline adventures.
Drainage was a key concern, so we installed a discreet drywell beneath the CATio to keep the area dry and functional year-round.
As the project evolved, the clients added a custom kitchen prep table with hidden storage, a beautiful and functional feature that completed this compact yet highly livable outdoor retreat.
