Seattle Sustainable Landscapes

Hillside Restoration & ECA Compliance Project

This project focused on stabilizing a steep hillside and meeting Seattle’s Environmentally Critical Area (ECA) requirements.

The homeowner was required to restore the slope for hillside retention. Our priority for this phase was to complete the planting scope needed for city approval.

The ECA planting requirements, combined with the homeowner’s ornamental goals, resulted in the installation of 180 plants, including a specially sourced tree specimen. All planting took place on a very steep slope during a wet, muddy season. City-required plants were carefully installed and clearly marked with labeled flags, as requested by the municipality, before supplemental plantings were added.

To support long-term establishment, we installed drip irrigation across the entire hillside and finished with 14 yards of mulch. Once work was complete, the city conducted an inspection and approved the project without issue.
