The original structure was built in 1899 as a series of barns that were part of a larger estate. It was converted into a residence in 1961, with almost no updates in the next 30 years. When the project began in 1995, the house was somewhat derelict and needed a complete renovation. The idea was to restore and enhance the existing structure of 1899 without disturbing the integrity of grand spaces and to add the required rooms and infrastructure to make it a modern home.
