Bethesda Colonial

A multi-phase project, this once-underutilized backyard was transformed into a vibrant outdoor sanctuary that perfectly reflects the family’s love for both play and nature. The journey began with leveling a space for a soccer field, framed by rugged boulder walls that not only shaped the landscape but also tackled the challenge of heavy rain runoff from uphill, turning a problem into a unique feature. This transformation laid the groundwork for a beautiful flagstone patio, replacing the old and blending seamlessly with a new “Provence” style garden. Stepping stones meander through aromatic herbs and colorful perennials, creating pathways that invite exploration and connection.
A checkerboard firepit patio became a gathering place for cozy evenings, while the addition of a Wolf outdoor kitchen elevated the space, turning it into an entertainer’s dream. Thoughtfully selected native and ornamental plantings brought beauty and resilience, while improved drainage and low-voltage lighting illuminated the garden’s best features, allowing the space to shine both day and night. Despite the challenges of accessing the backyard through a narrow path and up stairs, each element was crafted with care and creativity, reflecting the family’s vision of a space that could evolve with their needs. This backyard is now a place of joy and inspiration—a testament to the power of thoughtful design to turn obstacles into opportunities for beauty and connection.
