Darnestown Retreat
Transforming a wide-open space into inviting destinations is both a challenge and an opportunity. Our client sought to turn their blank-slate backyard into a multifunctional retreat, seamlessly integrating a second-story screened deck with a ground-level patio.
We constructed an elevated screened porch with a grill island and leathered granite countertops, overlooking the grassy backyard. The outward-venting hooded grill ensures a smoke-free dining experience. A flared staircase leads to the lower level, where guests are welcomed by a Techo-Bloc Blu 60 slate gray patio, stone walls, and a gas fire pit with a rounded seat wall.
Soft lighting throughout the backyard creates a warm ambiance, complemented by a mix of evergreens, shrubs, and perennials for year-round beauty.
The lower-level kitchen, sheltered by a composite pergola, offers additional space for entertaining, with shade from the summer sun. A deck off the homeowner’s office cleverly conceals a storage shed below.
At the front, a winding paver entranceway is lined with vibrant plantings and flowering trees, enhanced by uplighting. A decorative concrete bench and seasonal container garden add a welcoming touch.
