brise soleil
The “Brise Soleil” home was designed as an energy efficient, light filled retreat for a family of five on a block across from a noisy parkway. Its form evolved from two essential factors: sun and sound. Inverted “L” shaped, sun blocking overhangs clad in white stucco shield the south facade from excessive heat gain while diffusing ambient light through to the back of the house. Main living spaces can open to the back of the house shielded from the parkway noise.
