fallen pines

This renovation transformed a 1950s ranch into a modern sustainable home. The photovoltaic array on the roof produces over half of the home's electricity. Overhangs were added to the roof to provide shading as well as visual depth. The exterior walls were re-insulated, sheathed in new plywood and finished with fiber cement clapboard. A pergola made of sustainably harvested ipe was constructed to provide shade and shelter over the new front porch. laminated glass on stainless steel brackets provides protection form rain and snow. The interior was reconfigured to a spacious open plan. A simple modern palette of white, charcoal gray, stainless steel and natural wood gives the interior a timeless, modern feel.
