Burlingame Cape

Royal Barry Wills was the architect for this charming Cape Cod, created as a sample house for the World's Fair at Treasure Island, when the island was formed. The house was put on a barge after the fair and moved to Burlingame. In this project, it was important to preserve the historic millwork on the interior and classic Cape Cod architecture, but better integrate the additions made over the years, remodel the kitchen, and expand the living area to better support the family's needs. We raised the floor in the family room to be level with the rest of the first floor, vaulted the ceiling, and opened it up to the kitchen. The kitchen was remodeled, and a former bathroom become a pantry and laundry off the kitchen. We extended the downstairs bedroom wing of the home, adding a new master suite, office, craft room, and new hall bath. Upstairs, two dormers were added to make the steeply pitched, low attic roof functional, with a cozy reading nook at the top of the stairs, and a charming guest bedroom.
