Cedar Lake

A short drive from downtown Minneapolis, this gem of a home just needed a little personality. We didn't have tear down or move any walls, but we worked in most rooms of the house. The result is a comfortable home - as ready for entertaining as it is for a relaxed night watching the game.

Adding an 8' x 4' island to the kitchen area improved the flow of the space and gave guests a place to perch while the homeowner prepped meals. A window seat offers additional seating, or just a good place to sip coffee and read the paper.

In the lower level, the bartop is a beautiful slab of Baricatto granite that's highlighted with dark-stained cabinetry. Similarly-colored floor tile and carpet make it easy to clean in the bar area, but softer in the rest of the family room/pool table room.

Replacing the builder-grade railings around the stairway was a dramatic improvement. Newel posts and rails coordinate with the existing cabinetry and new floors. The iron spindles is a subdued pattern highlight the rubbed bronze fixtures.

Transitioning from wood floors upstairs to carpet downstairs, the stairs were carpeted to dampen sound and up the coziness factor. Another new newel post and iron balusters provide a cohesive feel.

A perfect spot to enjoy your coffee in the morning. Storage underneath makes it a multi-tasking space. A vented baseboard didn't require moving ductwork.
