These home owners had lived in this historic building for many years before they called us in to renovate their very old kitchen space into a great "his and his" cook's kitchen.

At one time the building seems to have been a small factory or store house. It is in the Queen Village section of Philadelphia and seems to date back to the mid 1800's. It was probably turned into a residence sometime in the early 1900's.

Because of historic requirements, we were not allowed to alter the window openings of the kitchen. The old window sills are below the counter height, and look out on two charming but narrow alley ways. This means the public walkway is directly outside the windows. Simple grommet half drapes help create privacy and add softness to this rather masculine urban cook's kitchen.

The clients selected the amazing fossil example to be a feature area of the backsplash tile. The floor is tile with in floor heat. We added a small powder room just off the kitchen. The appliances are from Thermador.

These clients have collected wonderful mid century pieces. A setting of Thomas Moser chairs and a mid century table to add to the new kitchen, creating an "eat in" space just inside from the small patio space outside through large sliding glass doors.

We addressed the patio walls with capping stones, new stucco, and we installed a new blue stone patio floor.

All of these features help create a wonderful private indoor outdoor experience in this rather large urban kitchen.
