Situated in the desert climate, the most important idea was to provide plenty of shade for the chickens but still have breezes to cool the coop. Based on sun angle studies, the facade changes to block summer sun but allow winter sun depending on the direction. The coop was also designed on a tight budget and had to be able to be constructed by Waldorf parents. Thus, 2x4's in different configurations are the primary material.
