Chilmark Meadow Residence
This Residence is located on the beautiful Island of Martha's Vineyard.
This house was designed with careful consideration of the landscape - with particular orientation/ juxtaposition between a large boulder, a vernal pond and a cluster of mature blueberry bushes. The house placement also paid close attention the natural contours of the site, the 200 year old hand-built stone walls, several pastoral meadows, a brick barn and a small orchard of apple trees.
The exterior of the building was designed to minimize the visual impact of the house in the natural landscape with an organic approach to implement low profile roof lines and natural materials - such as wood, granite, glass and metal.
The design of the interior of the building was to provide clean detail lines which "brought the outside to the inside". The building Floor Plan is organized into three areas which each have a unique function relative to the public and private realm, each with its distinct connection to the views and landscape.
