Contemporary Backyard with Pool

Project includes a Backyard Master Plan. Our design included all elements on the plan & photos, excluding the actual pool installation. In our first meeting with the client, he requested: 1) Final product should be 'Hollywood', 2) The design must feature orange elements & 3) Must have spectacular lighting to extend the use of the backyard into the nighttime hours. We enjoyed putting on our creative thinking caps on to create unique, fun & functional 'Hollywood' lighting for this project.

The main issues with this project was that the clients 'wish list' was bigger than his backyard. This presented a challenge. The lighting design was crucial as the backyard at night is very dark. This gave us an opportunity to use unique solutions for lighting the pool deck and stone piers.

All elements installed by subcontractors were designed by our office:
Hudson Pools & Spas, Extreme Marine Products Inc - supplied fire pole, B&K Concrete Construction & Contracting Inc - concrete base for pavers, Naragon Irrigation Company - lawn irrigation, R&T Fence Company Inc, Boliantz Masons – piers.

Low-voltage landscape lights for this design also include path lights strategically located at edge of pavement and steps, and up-lights on larger specimen trees.

New LED low-voltage lights are controlled with homeowner’s Control Four System, easy to access with smartphone technology. Key light selection were these in-ground paver lights – mounted flush in patio surface.

In-ground lights occur around pool within the Techo-bloc Antika pavers flowing river pattern. Aesthetically pleasing, they also function as safety beacons for the pool edge at night.

At night, the backyard project shines with the requested ‘Hollywood’ appeal. The effect is created with carefully selected low-voltage lighting fixtures and the lighting design.

A cantilevered composite ‘fishing’ dock is accessed from backyard via Maryland Flagstone slab steps. Lighting for the dock is supplied with subtle hidden bar lights installed beneath the pier caps.
