DC Nest
This is a 1 bedroom apartment in Northwest Washington DC in the same building that we decorated a studio apartment in. One neighbor showed another neighbor her apartment and before we knew it we were decorating 3 apartments in this art deco style building and remodeling the rest of the apartments. To help make the galley style kitchen look larger we added a subway tile beveled mirror backsplash, and 4 beveled mirrors on the end wall. We chose a gorgeous chandelier to light up the room and a teal, navy and deep green wallpaper to make a big impact. For the living room, we chose furniture that does double duty. The storage ottomans serve as tables, storage, and extra seating when needed. Instead of using a media cabinet that wasted space under the TV we selected a chest of drawers with 2 open shelves on the top to store TV components. With very little closet space our client asked for as many drawers as we could squeeze in. The sofa is so comfy you just sink into it. We added nailhead detailing on the front of the sofa. In the bedroom, we used an adjustable memory foam bed, a winged headboard with nailhead trim and a small swivel chair and ottoman for a quiet reading nook. The dresser. chest and nightstand are all from West Elm. We used patterned draperies for color and a deep blue area rug but kept the rest of the room light to help make a small space appear larger.
