Eclectic Rectory Restoration, Kingsbridge, Devon
Woodford Architecture + Interiors have recently completed a major refurbishment of this former rectory, transforming all of the rooms in this outstanding Grade II listed Georgian property.
Our clients felt passionately about developing a contemporary interiors scheme which sat well in the historical context of the house while being a backdrop for their eclectic collection of modern artwork. Having lived in India, they were also keen to reflect their passion for this country through the textures and patterned fabric of the soft furnishings.
The exceptional period details and features of the house have been restored and reinstated where necessary. Working with cabinet makers to realise ambitious designs, reflecting the ecclesiastic rectory style into beautiful woodwork and bespoke features.
The clients requested an en suite bathroom to be designed into their master bedroom; this posed quite a challenge and required a very sensitive solution due to the original beautiful vaulted ceiling. “We created an imaginative and playful design which allows the proportions of the room to remain and incorporates a confession box- a nod to the nearby church! Luxurious mother of pearl tiles were chosen which reflect the light beautifully and complement the warmth of the oak joinery” explains Sarah Woodford the Interior Designer who directed the project.
This house demonstrates that with a sensitive approach to interior design an electric home can be created whilst still retaining a sense of cohesion.
