Waterside Home, Newton Ferrers, Devon
The design for this family home, takes full advantage of the outstanding views of the estuary and landscape beyond, the design creates a house of very generous proportions.
On the ground floor the living spaces are stretched out along the estuary frontage and open onto a spectacular veranda, perfect for relaxing and evening entertaining. Within the heart of the home we developed a secret garden space set within a concealed courtyard space that connects to the kitchen, informal living and lounge spaces for more intimate and tranquil enjoyment.
On the first floor each of the bedrooms has its own en suite bathroom, feature oak beams and a stunning bespoke staircase connecting each of the 3 floors.
On the lower garden level there are further living spaces which have been cleverly and sensitively concealed into the steeply sloping site; they include an underground swimming pool and spa recessed behind a loggia adorned with wisteria and honeysuckle and covered by a ‘green’ turf roof.
Great care and attention was given to the siting of the house in this stunning setting to harmonise the building with its environment and the landscaping surrounding the house; this was achieved working in conjunction with a RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winning landscape architect.
This project demonstrates how an outstanding and generous family home can be sensitively developed on a very challenging site to create an exceptional and classic home.
